Walls

Draw your lines wide and high
Be sure to cut off sight.
White-out those things you fear
Closed eyes with all your might.
Fear is bred in every corner.
Fright is fed around the clock.
We build walls high and tall,
Blocking out illuminating light.
And in this cave of deep denial,
We sell ourselves our own right.
We declaim the evil of the other,
And claim our win in the fight.
But soon the dark will close on in
And we’ll become that lonely night.
The death of laughter and joy will come
To tumble us from our false height.
In that dark we begin to fall,
Screaming out to declare our plight.
As we tumble in our isolation
Of moral guidance we lose sight.
No hands reach out to slow our fall
None can see without the light
And we’ll take no part in that relief.
We cling to our lonely right.
